Hello! This is my furry, little, pal, Grover. My son gave him to me, to keep me company on my trip to Indonesia. I do not like to take pictures, use the phone, or use social media in general, but having Grover along has already made things easier.
You will see pictures of Grover throughout the trip. Grover is a symbol for me. English teachers always view their lives in metaphors, symbols, and Grover represents a part of my childhood. Grover was certainly my favorite Sesame Street character growing up. I also loved Ernie’s laugh and Big Bird’s kindness.
I want to keep that childlike sense of adventure to this trip that Grover brings out whenever I look at him. My wife, Luiza, suggested I take pictures of him, and that was enough to get me interested in taking out the camera. Placing him by the window of my plane seat and clicking a photo, allowed me to instantly feel like a little kid. Playfulness is something I need to get back into my life. Moreover, it reminds me of Lu and Aidan everytime he comes out. (I already miss them, terribly!)
Below are some photos from the plane ride over. The first, from Logan to Chicago (approx. 2.5 hours) followed by Chicago to Tokyo (approx. 14 hours), and finally Tokyo to Jakarta (approx. 7 hours).
