Today, we visited The Batik Textile Museum and created our own handkerchiefs.
Dewi interpreted the instructions to us in the session.
Here we are getting into position.
First, we begin with a pattern on a plain piece of fabric. We waited for the wax to be hot enough, and then traced over the pattern with the instrument. We repeated this process on both sides of the fabric.
You can see us hard at work.
After we finished, the fabric is rinsed thoroughly.
Next, it is rinsed in blue or red dye and laid out to dry.

My before.
After the wax application process. The dots were my idea.
My finished product.
That's actually a really neat design. Does it happen to have traditional value or mean anything? I honestly think it would be really interesting to learn how to make a handkerchief that is custom designed by yourself, rather than having a tailor do that for you. It gives it a bit more individuality over it just being a typical handkerchief. Is there any possibility that you might be able to teach anyone else how to do this? Also, did this happen to be a long process or a quicker one?
